With local elections taking place across the county in May residents will, for the first time, need to show photographic ID when voting.
The Electoral Commission is urging people to make sure they have an accepted form of ID in order to vote. Accepted forms include a UK, European Economic Area or Commonwealth passport or driving license. An older person’s bus pass and blue badge are also acceptable.
Voters will also be able to use ID that has expired, as long as they are still recognisable in the photo.
A full list of accepted forms of ID is available on the Electoral Commission website. Anyone who does not have one of the accepted forms of ID will be able to apply for free Voter Authority Certificate ID online or by completing a paper form.
More information about this year’s local elections is available by visiting your local district or borough council’s website.
