A woman was left fearing for her life when a robber threatened her with a knife before stealing cash from her.
Ali Golzari, 40, had been at a hotel in Leicester with the woman in November last year when his behaviour suddenly changed leading to him pushing her against a wall and grabbing her arm.
The victim tried to defend herself by kicking Golzari and pushing back against him which led to them both falling to the floor. It was at this point the suspect pulled out a knife and began making threats to the woman.
She continued to fight back and tried to leave as Golzari continued to make threats. Golzari then pushed her onto a bed where he again threatened her with a knife.
The victim fought back defending herself and the fight continued before Golzari then grabbed some cash which had fallen out of the woman’s handbag and left. The victim, who suffered bruising to her body, made others aware of the incident leading to it being reported to the police.
Golzari, of Jubilee Road, Leicester, was arrested and, following investigation, charged with the offence.
Yesterday (20 May), at Leicester Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to robbery and was sentenced to five years and four months imprisonment.
Detective Sergeant Sam Blackhurst said: “Golzari’s actions left the victim terrified and fearing for her life. It is thanks to her bravery and co-operation throughout this case that we were able to carry out a full investigation which has ultimately led to this conviction.
“I now hope that this result helps her in some way as she continues to deal with the events of that day and the effect it has had on her since.”
