Man seriously injured after city centre assault


A 49-year-old man has sustained serious injuries after he was assaulted in Braunstone Gate, Leicester, yesterday evening (Friday 27 August).

Officers were called to the area, just outside Natterjacks, around 10.30pm after the victim was found unconscious in the street. He was taken to hospital with serious head injuries and his condition has been described as life threatening. A 27-year-old Leicester man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) and remains in police custody. The scene has been cordoned off to allow officers to carry out a thorough examination. Detective Sergeant Jenny Tattersall, said: “It was a busy evening and we know there were a number of people in the area at the time. We urge anyone who hasn’t yet spoken to officers to get in touch if they witnessed the incident or know anything about the circumstances leading up to it. “Also if you recorded any footage of the incident we need to speak to you.” Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101, quoting crime number 21*499653.
