Leicester Hospitals have reintroduced visiting restrictions.

Leicester Hospitals have reintroduced visiting restrictions from 31st December 2021, due to the ongoing surge of Covid-19 infections.

Due to the increased prevalence of COVID-19 in the community we have made the difficult decision to restrict visiting for patients to keep our patients and colleagues safe.

As with visiting restrictions in previous COVID-19 waves, we will keep the restriction under regular review and still allow exceptions for compassionate reasons as outlined below:

Compassionate exceptions

  • Family bubble for patients under 18 years old, see below for paediatric and neonatal intensive care units

  • One carer for adult patients requiring assistance

  • One relative for a patient receiving difficult news

  • One relative collecting a patient being discharged

  • Two relatives for patients at end of life

  • Two birthing partners during labour and on the maternity wards

  • Partner for antenatal scan (providing social distancing can be maintained)

Permitted visitors should only attend hospital provided they:

  • Have no coronavirus symptoms, sickness or diarrhoea

  • Have obtained a negative lateral flow test result on the day of the visit

  • Are not self-isolating because of a positive PCR test, or because of contact isolation based on vaccination status, in line with government guidance

  • Observe mask wearing, hand hygiene and social distancing guidance whilst on site.
