A police officer has been injured in New Parks


A large police presence were seen on Aikman Avenue today.


A police officer received injuries and has been taken to hospital after police responded to an incident at a nearby address.


Fire & British Red Cross teams from Western Fire station opposite where the incident had taken place, quickly arrived and given immediate first aid.

A police spokesperson said:


“We were called at 12.51pm by EMAS following a report for the concern for the welfare of a man inside a property in Piper Close who had sustained an injury.

Prior to the arrival of officers and EMAS, the man left the address.

A search was carried out in the area for the man by officers who was found close to Aikman Avenue. The man has been detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and will be going to hospital for treatment to his injury.

In the process of the man being detained, an officer sustained an injury to his leg. He is currently at hospital. His injury is not believed to be life threatening or life changing.

Aikman Avenue has been closed between New Parks Way and Glengarry Way while officers respond to the incident and will be reopened shortly.”
